Michael Derman, with over 30 years in the aerospace and defense industry, has spearheaded unique partnerships and led talented teams. Before his role at EVIO, he co-founded two military jet programs, one with Textron resulting in the Scorpion ISR-Strike aircraft, and another advanced jet trainer/light-attack program acquired by Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC), where he then served as Vice President of Strategy and Innovation. He also founded an Alaskan Native composites manufacturer, a Boeing Gold Supplier that earned the Nunn-Perry award through a partnership with Lockheed Martin.
As President of the Northwest Aerospace Association, he fostered collaborations across industry, academia, and government, enhancing aircraft certification processes and initiating a composites welfare-to-work program.
Beyond the aerospace sector, Derman has significantly contributed to public service in Oregon, including chairing commissions on youth and family support, reviewing early childhood programs, and investigating economic barriers for Oregonians. He’s been involved with the Oregon Manufacturing Extension Partnership, academic, and FAA advisory boards, demonstrating a broad impact on both industry and community initiatives.
